Motivation is the main factor that keeps student athletes pursuing their athletic careers. At times in your athletic career motivation can be tough and challenging for one. As I have spoke upon in my other blog posts being a student athlete is time consuming and hard to balance external factors. For this blog I will describe what motivation means to an athlete and the importance of this.

What is Motivation:

Motivation is something that pushes us student athletes to get the job done and keep grinding. Motivation pushes you to the next level physically and mentally as a student athlete. when you are motivated you are able to set realistic goals and achieve those goals. Motivation also pushes to to try new things, face adversity, and overcome obstacles in life.

Importance of Motivation:

Motivation is very important because everything you do as a student athlete requires a lot of dedication and commitment. Having motivation is what get you through your everyday activities as an athlete. On a normal day you have lift, practice, and classes. That is a day that doesn't consist of meetings, a game, treatment...etc. Having your days one repeat can sometimes becoming boring and receptive. Which is why when people talk about student athletes one of the main qualities that say they have is motivation.

How to overcome obstacles when you are losing motivation:

Losing motivation is something most student athletes face at one point or another. A few ways to overcome losing motivation is learning to enjoy the journey. Everyone lives a different journey and embrace whatever your journey may be. there are highs in lows in life and that is something you have to face no matter what. So turn those lows into highs and try to find the positives in everything you do in life. Keeping a positive mindset will help you find your motivation and progress through the hard times. Also remember the reasons to why you are who you are and how you go to where you are at. At times when I lose motivation for wanting to go to practice I remind myself how hard I worked to become a collegiate athlete. I think of all the time and money my family put in so I could fulfill my dreams. This makes me realize that it is not time to give up and I need to use those lows in my life to motivate me to be better. Losing motivation can come from being very busy and on the go. Which is why it is important to read my other blog posts on how rest and recovery can positively affect you as a student athlete. During those times on confusion and loss of motivation remember it is okay to take breaks and regroup. You are your top priority not your sport, and I think sometimes those two things get mixed up.

In conclusion it amazes me the amount of motivate it takes to be a student athlete. It is such a cool and awesome experience being around others that are as motivated as me. It is important to know what motivation is, why it is important, and how to overcome the feeling of losing your motivation. Having a motivated mindset will help you accomplish so many things in life!! Where do you want your motivation to take you?
